"To be merry" means to be happy.

The expression "the more the merrier" means the more people that come, the happier we are.

merry → 快樂；開心

這個慣用語的意思是「有越多人加入，我們會玩得越開心」，

也可以單純的表示「多多益善」，愈多愈好！

但有時候，也可能只是口頭上說說的場面話，口是心非。
