If you're in a pickle, it actually means that you're in trouble.

You find yourself in a difficult situation.

pickle (n.) 泡菜；在此引申為 trouble (麻煩)

"in a pickle" 字面意思是「在泡菜之中」，但其實是要表達「遇到麻煩了！」

"To give something a try" means to do something, usually something you have not done before.

"Give it a try" 意思同於 "have a try" 或是 "try it"，

表示「試試看」、「試一試」、「試它一試」。

想像有個人正駕著馬車，馬兒一股腦的想要往前衝，

blind (adj.) 瞎的；盲的

bat (n.) 蝙蝠

(as) blind as a bat 字面上的意思是「瞎得跟蝙蝠一樣」，因為蝙蝠的視力極差。因此形容一個人近視很深，或是有什麼原因導致看不清楚，簡直跟瞎了一樣，就可以說 Sb. is (as) blind as a bat. 第一個 "as" 可以省略。

直譯：沒有傷害，沒有犯規。

這個慣用語源自於籃球比賽，指輕微的身體碰撞，不算犯規。

後來延伸應用到生活中，可以指「這不算什麼嚴重的事」。

Yes, Jeff forgot about the meeting, but no harm, no foul. We can just reschedule it for next week.

這句話通常用在朋友向你道謝時的回覆，表示「那就是朋友之所以為朋友；那就是朋友之道」。

用法同於：What are friends for? (朋友是做什麼用的？)

on the house 直譯是「在房子上面」，其實是指「帳算在本店上」，也就是「本店招待，免費享用」的意思。

blink → 眨眼

The idiom "in the blink of an eye" means very quickly, almost without noticing it.

形容事情發生之快，才一眨眼的功夫，事情就發生或轉變了。

Love can turn to hate in the blink of an eye.

愛可以轉瞬變成恨。

直譯：時間不算太早

The idiom "not a moment too soon" means just in time. It describes something that happened almost too late, at the last possible moment before it is too late, just in the nick of time.

當某件事發生的時間點剛剛好，但只差一點點就遲了，可以用 "not a moment too soon" 來形容事情發生的倉促卻及時。

中文可依情境翻作「差點就來不及了」、「剛好來得及」、「及時趕上」、「不算太晚」、「不算太遲」等等。

"Don't you believe it" is just another way of saying "You're wrong. What you just said is wrong. You should not think that it's true."

使用時機：對方聽說了什麼事而轉述給你聽，而你認為那種說法有誤，要對方別相信，於是信誓旦旦跟對方說 "Don't you believe it."

dead → 死

You're dead. 除了字面上是「你死了」的意思，也可以用來警告或恐嚇對方千萬不要做某件事，否則下場會很慘。

換句話說：You're dead meat. / You're a dead man.

If you lie to me again, you're dead!

如果你再對我說謊，你就死定了！

直譯為「健康得如同小提琴」，用來比喻身體非常健康。
